Personal label-reading workflow
Build a watchlist around the terms you want to notice
A personal watchlist can make crowded ingredient panels easier to scan. It is a text-matching aid—not a universal food score or a safety decision.
Start small and specific
Add a few terms that reflect what you personally want to notice while shopping. Use the spelling that commonly appears on packages, and review the list over time rather than adding every unfamiliar word at once.
Use matches as pointers
When Ingredio highlights a watchlist term, it means recognized label text matched the keyword you selected. A match helps you find the relevant part of the label quickly; it does not interpret hidden ingredients, manufacturing practices, or personal suitability.
A repeatable three-step routine
- Scan the complete ingredient list. A barcode is optional.
- Review each highlighted match. Compare it with the original package and surrounding text.
- Refine your watchlist. Remove noisy terms and add useful synonyms you encounter on real labels.
Important: a missing match does not prove that a product lacks a substance. OCR can miss text, labels can change, and undeclared ingredients or cross-contact are outside the app’s capabilities.
