Side-by-side label guide

How to compare two food ingredient lists

Comparing labels is easier when you separate what is printed from the conclusion you eventually make. Start with the complete text, then inspect the differences that matter to you.

Use the same process for both products

  1. Photograph each complete ingredient panel in similar lighting.
  2. Verify the recognized text against both packages.
  3. Look at ingredient order, since ingredients are generally listed by weight under applicable labeling rules.
  4. Expand nested ingredients instead of comparing only the top-level names.
  5. Review matches from the same personal watchlist on both scans.

Questions a comparison can answer

A comparison is not a verdict. Ingredient lists alone do not establish that one product is healthier, safer, or suitable for a particular person. Serving size, nutrition facts, manufacturing information, and individual context may also matter.

Save the evidence you reviewed

Ingredio can save scans for later review and place ingredient information side by side. Keep the physical package available whenever a precise reading matters.
